Children’s Book Council of Australia Awards 2007

Tuesday this week, the CBC announced its list of Notable Books- approximately two hours before the announcement of the shortlist. The Notable Books are novels selected from each category that the CBC found worthy (in some way) of recommending.  From their website www.cbc.org.au is this comment about the Notables:

The Judges of the 2007 Awards commend these titles as a source for individual reading and gift giving, and for inclusion in Australian and international public and school library collections.

Did you notice Destroying Avalon rates a mention? I was thrilled! The short list that was announced later consisted of some very impressive titles (the big guns of Australian YA lit were out in force last year!)

Author:

I am an Australian author of YA and Adult fiction. My first novel Destroying Avalon (2006) published by Fremantle Arts Centre Press is about cyber bullying.My second novel In Ecstasy (2008) is about friendship and drugs. My third novel Beautiful Monster (2010)focuses on body image . Crashing Down (2014) was my fourth novel and is about teen pregnancy. Saving Jazz (2016), is a novel that looks the world of social media and what happens when your mistakes go viral. In 2019 I released a non-fiction book The (mostly) English Teachers' Survival Guide To Marking which outlines a coded marking and feed-forward system, designed to save teachers about 50% of their marking time. My first adult book Double Lives is being released in 2022. I live in Western Australia, with my husband, two daughters, a cat and two Maltese Shih Tzus.

Your contribution to the panel discussion on last night’s ‘Difference of Opinion’ was fantastic – it was the best show in the series so far (in my humble opinion) and provided some fascinating insights into our evolving cyber world. Onya girl – keep up the good work!
